The co-owner of Cherry’s Doughnuts said he was inside the business when officers arrived and the atmosphere changed immediately.
Surveillance footage shows several people gathered outside the Cherry Doughnuts bakery before a man suddenly stands up and quickly leaves.
Seconds later, a pair of officers can be seen running after those who tried to get away.
“I heard a woman shout, ‘la migra, la migra, la migra,’ and I saw a black truck drive off,” said Franklin Kong, co-owner of Cherry Doughnuts.
Kong said he was attending to the shop when federal agents arrived without any announcement.
“They didn’t say anything, they just saw people running and tried to chase them without asking anything,” he described, referring to the way officers acted inside and around the establishment during the immigration raids in California.
Community on Alert After Multiple Raids
The incident at Cherry’s Doughnuts was only one of six immigration raids reported that day.
The organization Órale Long Beach shared on social media that federal agents carried out similar actions at various locations across the city, alarming residents, workers, and business owners.
The arrests and the presence of officers chasing people created a tense atmosphere that lasted for several hours.
The combination of simultaneous raids and the accounts of witnesses who saw the agents arrive has deepened concern among affected communities, who remain alert for any new movements from authorities amid ongoing immigration raids in California.
