A Historic Giro for Latin America
Del Toro, originally from Ensenada and a rider for UAE Team Emirates, became the first Mexican to stand on the final podium of the Giro d’Italia—one of the three Grand Tours of world cycling.
The title went to Simon Yates, who claimed the maglia rosa for the first time after completing the 21 stages with a total time of 82 hours, 31 minutes, and 1 second.
At 32 years and 9 months old, he is the eighth-oldest cyclist to win this race.

He also thanked UAE Team Emirates for their trust and celebrated having worn the leader’s jersey during several stages:
“My Giro was a surprise to a lot of people. I’ll be back. Now it’s time to enjoy the celebration in Italy.”
