Authorities in New Castle County, Delaware, reported on Tuesday the arrest of the ex-husband of Jill Biden, who served as First Lady of the United States during Joe Biden’s term from 2021 to 2025.

The suspect was identified as William Stevenson, 77, who is facing a formal charge of first-degree murder in connection with the death of his current wife.

The case dates back to late December and is now moving forward following a grand jury decision, according to a statement from local authorities.

After the initial hearing, Stevenson was remanded to the Howard Young Correctional Institution after failing to post a $500,000 cash bond.

Authorities have not publicly detailed the specific evidence supporting the charge or the steps of the investigation leading up to the indictment.

So far, county police have not disclosed the exact cause of Linda Stevenson’s death.

The 911 Call and the Fatal Discovery

In December, police reported that officers responded to the couple’s residence in Wilmington after receiving a 911 call regarding a domestic dispute.

Upon entering the home, officers found Linda Stevenson unconscious and attempted life-saving measures.

Despite efforts at the scene, the woman was pronounced dead shortly afterward, according to Telemundo.

The case remained under investigation for weeks, with few details released about the circumstances of her death.

Authorities have only confirmed that the arrest followed the formal grand jury indictment, a key development in Jill Biden’s ex-husband murder charge case.

The Prior Connection to Jill Biden

William Stevenson was married to Jill Biden in the early 1970s, before she became a nationally known public figure.

The couple married in 1970, when Jill was 18 and Stevenson was 23, and their relationship lasted approximately five years.

In March 1975, Jill Biden met Joe Biden, who was serving as a U.S. senator from Delaware at the time.

Two months later, in May 1975, Jill Biden and Stevenson legally divorced.

During that same decade, William Stevenson opened The Stone Balloon, a bar located near the University of Delaware campus.

According to NBC News, the venue was frequented by artists such as Bruce Springsteen and Dave Matthews.

Authorities have not indicated that Stevenson’s past personal or professional life is connected to the current charges.

For now, the judicial process continues, and legal proceedings are expected to determine the direction of the case in the coming stages of the Jill Biden ex-husband murder charge investigation.
