ABC announced Wednesday that it will pull Jimmy Kimmel Live! from its programming “indefinitely,” according to Univision.

The decision followed the controversial comments about conservative activist Charlie Kirk made by host Jimmy Kimmel.

The move came after Nexstar Media — one of the largest media companies in the U.S. and owner of numerous affiliate stations — confirmed it would not air the show across its ABC network.

In a recent episode, Kimmel said: “The MAGA gang desperately tried to label this kid (Tyler Robinson), who killed Charlie Kirk, as anything but one of them and to do everything possible to score political points.”

The remarks sparked immediate backlash in conservative circles. Nexstar responded with a statement:

“Nexstar strongly opposes Mr. Kimmel’s recent comments about the murder of Charlie Kirk and will replace the program with alternative programming across its ABC affiliate markets.”

During the same program, the comedian also mocked the impact Kirk’s death had on President Donald Trump.

Showing a clip, Kimmel highlighted how, when asked by a reporter, Trump first answered “I think very well” before pivoting to talk about building a new ballroom in the White House.

Backlash Over Jokes About Charlie Kirk’s Assassination

Kimmel’s trademark satirical tone landed at the center of the controversy, with critics calling his words disrespectful in the wake of a tragedy that continues to shake the U.S. conservative base.

Born November 13, 1967, in New York, Jimmy Kimmel has hosted Jimmy Kimmel Live! since 2003, establishing it as one of the most-watched late-night shows in the U.S.

His style, marked by political and social humor, has made him a key figure in the late-night genre, with interviews that set trends and viral sketches widely shared on social media.

Before achieving national success, Kimmel worked in local radio and TV, where he began shaping his satirical voice and critical take on politics and pop culture.

In addition to hosting, he has worked as an actor and producer, winning multiple Emmy Awards for his impact on television comedy.

What the Suspension Means

The suspension opens a new chapter in the relationship between television networks and public figures who use humor to comment on politics.

For now, ABC has not specified how long Jimmy Kimmel Live! will remain off the air or what programming will replace it in the late-night slot.

The decision could set a precedent in how networks handle programming under increasing political and media pressure.
