The family of Jonnier Agosto Cortés is engulfed in grief after he was killed by a car that ran up onto the sidewalk.
The 28-year-old Puerto Rican father and husband was walking along the sidewalk on Curry Ford Road near Colton Avenue on the evening of May 9, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
The incident involved a white car, which for unknown reasons, ran up onto the sidewalk and then sped off.

«[W]e tragically just lost my son in a hit and run accident,» explains his mother Glorimar Cortes on GoFundMe.
The driver did not intend to help, according to the victim’s family members. They continued on their way while the young father lay dying in the sidewalk.
According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the car stopped briefly at a Walgreens.
The driver got out, checked the vehicle’s damage, got back in as if nothing had happened, and left.
Police are looking for the hit-and-run driver

Officers followed the trail of the driver, thanks to security cameras that captured the license plate number and revealed that the driver made no attempt to help Jonnier Agosto Cortés.
Within hours of the fatal hit-and-run, police located the suspect’s residence.
There, they found the vehicle involved in the Puerto Rican’s death, but they could not determine who was driving that fateful night.
The family hopes that anyone with information will contact investigators to help identify the responsible party.

They want the driver punished, though they are aware that it won’t bring their loved one back. The future of Jonnier’s one-year-old son is of utmost concern to the Cortés family.
«Jonnier leaves behind his one year old son and a heartbroken family,» wrote Glorimar Cortes on the GoFundMe campaign.
Jonnier’s wife and close ones have set aside their grief to handle the funeral expenses.
He was the family’s breadwinner, and now they are all seeking funds to return his remains to Puerto Rico.
