Jorge Alberto Acosta was arrested in Houston, Texas for the brutal shooting murder of Guatemalan immigrant Sebastián Maquin-Cuz.
Jorge Alberto Acosta, 5, lost his temper during an argument with 38-year-old Sebastián Maquin-Cuz and shot him in a fit of rage.
Maquin-Cuz was an immigrant from Guatemala and now the community from his home country is organizing to send his body back for the funeral.
According to the Penal Code of the State of Texas, the crime of homicide is punishable by 20 to 99 years in prison for those found guilty.

Jorge Alberto Acosta shot a man to death in Texas

Judge Ana Martínez of the 179th Criminal District Court in Harris County will oversee Jorge Alberto Acosta’s case.
The case documents detail the shooting.
What remains unclear for now is why Sebastián Maquin-Cuz and Jorge Alberto Acosta began to argue.
Detectives from the Homicide Division of the Houston Police Department (HPD) are still gathering details of the crime.
Paramedics were unable to help Sebastián Maquin-Cuz

On Wednesday, May 8, 2024, at 7:10 p.m., emergency services received a call notifying them of a violent shooting.
Officers responded to the incident but were surprised to find that the shooting report had come from the intersection of Broadway Street and Highway 288 in south Houston.
In that area, there are not many homes, just an apartment complex and several shopping centers at the four corners of the location.
One of the first HPD patrol officers to arrive at the scene found Sebastián Maquin-Cuz lying badly injured in a meadow by the roadside.
Several cameras captured the violent incident

The HPD officer urgently requested the presence of paramedics from the Houston Fire Department (HFD).
However, when the HFD paramedics arrived at the scene, they were unable to help Sebastián Maquin-Cuz, and he was declared dead at the location.
After it was confirmed that Maquin-Cuz was deceased, the HPD’s Homicide Division took over the investigation into the brutal crime.
Witnesses told the HPD that the deceased and another man had been involved in an argument. At that moment, the name of Jorge Alberto Acosta was not yet known.
Authorities were able to identify and capture Jorge Alberto Acosta

The motive for the crime is not yet certain, but thanks to highway security cameras, officers were able to see details of the crime.
Security cameras from the highway and various businesses were key in identifying Jorge Alberto Acosta as the perpetrator of the crime.
Detectives from the HPD’s Homicide Division arrested Acosta for the murder of Sebastián Maquin-Cuz.
Legal documents reveal that he was arrested in 2008 for driving under the influence.
Gun deaths continue to rise

The brutal shooting death of Sebastián Maquin Cuz by Jorge Alberto Acosta is just one of many firearm incidents.
According to the Gun Violence Archive, so far in 2024, 6,302 people have been shot dead in the country.
As of Monday, May 20, 2024, a total of 11,541 people have been seriously injured in various violent incidents involving guns.
Moreover, the United States has already experienced 165 mass shootings where at least four people died in the same violent event.
