» I accept your nomination to be president of the United States of America, and with this election, our nation comes an opportunity to overcome the bitterness of the past in order to find a new path forward,» he said.

The vice president stood out in the first minutes of the Democratic Convention, speaking about her time in the Prosecutor’s Office and her support for the nation.

«United States, the path that brought me here in recent weeks was undoubtedly unexpected. But I am no stranger to improbable journeys,” Harris said of the nation.

:I know there are people of various political opinions connected tonight. And I want you to know: I promise to be a president for all Americans,» she declared.

«I will be a leader who unites us around our highest aspirations. A leader who listens, who is realistic, practical and with common sense,» she said.

«And that we always fight for the American people. From the courts to the White House, that has been my life’s work,» she added.

She also urged voters to take the opportunity to leave the era of former President and Republican candidate Donald Trump behind, to live a new beginning.

«With this election, our nation has a precious and fleeting opportunity to overcome the bitterness, cynicism and divisions of the past,» said the vice president.

«A possibility of charting a new path. «Not as members of a party or faction, but as Americans,» she proclaimed before thousands of people gathered in a Chicago stadium.

During her speech, Harris told her personal story, contrasting her optimistic vision with Trump’s «darkness.»

By accepting the nomination, the vice president marked a milestone in American politics.

This by becoming the first woman of African American and South Asian descent to receive the presidential candidacy of one of the country’s two major parties.

A promise to America

In addition, the Democrat stressed her commitment to the millions of Americans who continue to emphasize that they are ready for «the next step.»

«My fellow Americans, I love our country with all my heart ,» she said.

«Everywhere I go, in every person I meet, I see a nation ready to move forward, ready to take the next step in the incredible journey that is America,» she said.

«I see an America where we hold on to the…belief that built our nation, that inspired the world, that here, in this country, anything is possible, nothing is out of reach.»

Women in the struggle: What does the white color they wear mean?

Likewise, hundreds of attendees at the Democratic National Convention in Chicago dressed in white this Thursday, the color that united the suffrage movement of the early 20th century.

With the goal of crowning Vice President Kamala Harris as the party’s candidate for the White House.

The practice of wearing white dates back to the suffrage movement of the early 20th century, in defense of women’s right to vote and participate in politics.

Early women’s suffrage advocates used it as a symbol of purity, often along with purple for dignity and green for hope.

They also used it to show that their protests were not aggressive.

Only one woman before Harris has received the Democratic presidential nomination: Hilary Clinton, who in 2016 wore a white suit when accepting the nomination at the party’s convention in Philadelphia.

Throughout history, many women who have reached high political positions have worn white in honor of the struggle that made it possible.

Sen. Elizabeth Warren of Massachusetts became the second and final woman to run against Harris in 2020.

Now she is at the convention that is nominating her. She was greeted with a minutes-long standing ovation and cheers from the crowd as she openly fought back tears.

«Kamala Harris cannot be bought nor can she be bossed around,» Warren said of her former Democratic rival. The two women served together in the Senate.

Beyoncé did not attend the Convention

Following rumors about singer Beyoncé’s attendance at the Democratic Convention, it was confirmed at the last minute that her attendance would not be possible on the last day of the event.

According to The Associated Press , a source involved in planning the evening revealed that the performer was not contemplated.

Speculation about a possible surprise appearance by the music superstar spread like wildfire ahead of Vice President Kamala Harris’ acceptance speech.

However, it was Pink who entertained those present and performed “What About Us” as a duet with her daughter, Willow Sage Hart, 12 years old. Both were dressed in black to star in the emotional moment.
