  • Kamala Harris Democratic nomination surpasses the necessary threshold of 1,976 delegates.
  • Congressman Robert Garcia confirmed the information.

On Monday, US Vice President Kamala Harris secured the support of enough delegates to secure her nomination as the Democratic Party’s candidate in the November presidential election.

This was announced by California Congressman Robert Garcia, according to a report by the Efe agency.

“California just voted unanimously to nominate Kamala Harris for president!” Garcia wrote via her official X account.

«Our delegates have put the Vice President over the required number she needs to be our nominee for the convention!» the congressman added.

To win the nomination in the first round of voting, a candidate needs the support of at least 1,976 delegates out of a total of 4,000.

With California’s support, Kamala Harris has surpassed this threshold, consolidating her position as the Democratic candidate for the next presidential election.

The confirmation of unanimous support from California delegates highlights the strong backing Harris has received within her party.

This positions her as a key contender in the race for the White House.

Earlier on Monday, The Associated Press reported that Vice President Kamala Harris had secured the backing of enough Democratic delegates to secure her party’s presidential nomination.

This is according to an Associated Press poll conducted after President Joe Biden’s decision not to seek re-election.

Harris, who received Biden’s endorsement minutes after he announced he would not accept the Democratic presidential nomination, worked to quickly secure support from donors, elected officials and other leaders of her party.

It should be noted that the AP does not consider Harris to be the new virtual candidate of the Democratic Party.

This is because convention delegates are still free to vote for the candidate of their choice at the August convention.

Or if Democrats hold a virtual roll call vote before that meeting in Chicago.

The AP poll only indicates that he has the support of more than the 1,976 delegates he would need to win in a first round.

But he also concluded that he is the overwhelming choice of his party to replace Biden on the ticket, since no delegate contacted by AP named another candidate.

As of Monday night, Harris had the support of at least 2,214 delegates, according to the AP tally.

Biden dropped out of the race on Sunday amid voter doubts about his suitability for office.

This follows his debate with Trump on June 27, which sparked an uproar among party leaders and donors.

But the party’s swiftness in rallying behind Harris represents an attempt by the party to put weeks of internal drama over Biden’s political future behind it and unify around the task of defeating Trump at the ballot box.

The AP tally is based on interviews with individual delegates and public statements from state parties.

Many of whom have announced their delegations support Harris en masse, and public statements and endorsements from individual delegates.

Securing the nomination is just the first step in an extraordinary list of political duties facing Harris following Biden’s decision.

Kamala Harris learned of that decision in a phone conversation with the president on Sunday morning.

If she manages to secure the nomination, she must also choose a running mate and launch a massive political operation.

This is to boost her candidacy instead of Biden’s with just over 100 days to go until the election.

On Sunday afternoon, the Biden campaign formally changed its name to “Harris for President.”

This reflects the fact that she is the one who inherits a political operation with more than 1,000 collaborators and a fund that amounted to almost 96 million dollars at the end of June.

She added $81 million to that total in the first 24 hours since Biden endorsed her, her campaign said.

This is a new record for presidential fundraising, with more than 888,000 donors raising the sum.

If she wins the election, she would be the first woman and the first person of South Asian descent to be president.
