- Kohl’s Easter store closure announced
- Nationwide Easter closure
- Shoppers will need to reschedule purchases
Customers of Kohl’s will find all stores closed for a full day across the United States due to a scheduled temporary shutdown by the retailer.
The measure will affect more than a thousand locations nationwide and is part of a policy the company has maintained for several years.
The closure is not related to operational problems or financial difficulties. Instead, it is a planned decision within the company’s annual calendar.
Still, the announcement has drawn attention from many shoppers who regularly visit the store and may find the doors closed on that day.
All Kohl’s stores will close on Easter Sunday 2026
The retailer confirmed that all of its U.S. locations will close on Easter Sunday, which in 2026 falls on April 5.
On that date, more than 1,150 Kohl’s stores will suspend operations for the entire 24-hour period.

The closure will also affect additional in-store services such as curbside pickup and product returns.
The company considers this date a “full system shutdown,” meaning none of its physical locations will be open.
A tradition of more than two decades
Although some customers may see the measure as unusual, the closure is part of a tradition Kohl’s has maintained for more than 20 years.
The company has chosen to keep the practice as part of its corporate culture and yearly operating calendar.
Throughout the year, only three major holidays lead to a full store closure.
In addition to Easter Sunday, Kohl’s also closes on Thanksgiving and Christmas.
The reason behind the shutdown
The company has explained that the primary goal of the decision is to offer employees a better work-life balance.
Kohl’s wants workers to have time to rest and spend the holiday with their families.
This approach also aligns with policies adopted by several other retailers that choose to close on specific holidays.
In this way, employees can enjoy a full day off without work obligations.
Alternatives for shoppers
Customers planning to visit Kohl’s during Easter will need to adjust their shopping plans.
Stores will operate normally the day before, April 4, and will reopen again on April 6.
The company recommends checking specific store hours through its store locator tool.
Customers are also advised to contact their nearest store to confirm schedules before visiting.
Online store will remain available
Although physical locations will be closed, Kohl’s website and mobile app will remain active during the holiday.
Shoppers will still be able to browse products and place orders online.
However, purchases made that day will not be processed until April 6.
Orders scheduled for store pickup on April 5 will also be automatically rescheduled for the following day.
Other retailers have also announced closures
Kohl’s is not the only company pausing operations during Easter.
Other retail chains such as TJ Maxx have also announced store closures for the holiday.
Additionally, companies like Costco and Aldi are expected to adopt similar measures.
Some shipping services — including United States Postal Service, FedEx and UPS — may also operate with limited services during the holiday, according to reports from The US Sun.
