A shocking case shook the city of Middletown, New York, after a man attacked a woman with a knife — a woman he had met through a dating app.

Orange County District Attorney David M. Hoovler announced on August 14, 2025, that 28-year-old Reggie Florence faces charges of second-degree attempted murder and two counts of first-degree assault.

The attack happened on August 3, when Florence convinced the victim to come to his apartment under the pretense of giving her a massage.

According to El Heraldo de México, once inside the residence, the situation took a terrifying turn.

According to court documents, Florence used a large kitchen knife and stabbed the victim repeatedly in the back of the neck.

The assault didn’t stop there — the man continued stabbing her in different parts of her body, including her torso and eyes.

As a result, the victim suffered extremely serious injuries, including the loss of one of her eyes.

The brutality of the attack left her with injuries that will change her life forever.

Police intervene and arrest Reggie Florence

When police arrived at the scene, they found Reggie Florence struggling with the knife still in his hand, next to the gravely injured victim.

Officers managed to subdue him and secured the crime scene.

Nearby, investigators found a mop, a bucket, and bottles of bleach — suggesting a possible attempt by the suspect to clean up evidence.

Authorities noted this detail could strengthen the case for premeditation.

Million-dollar bail and upcoming court date

Reggie Florence was presented before Orange County Court on August 14, where bail was set at staggering amounts:

$500,000 cash and $1 million with full bond or $2 million with partial bond.

Due to the seriousness of the charges, Florence was sent back to the county jail while awaiting trial.

The next hearing was scheduled for August 28, 2025, when progress in the judicial process is expected.

District Attorney Hoovler: “We will seek justice for this heinous crime”

“It is a miracle that the disturbing allegations in this case did not result in the death of the victim,” stated DA Hoovler.

“Fortunately, the swift response of law enforcement not only ensured the victim’s survival but also led to the immediate arrest of this allegedly violent offender,” he added.

“As the victim continues recovering from life-changing injuries, we will pursue accountability for this defendant’s heinous crimes,” he concluded.

The case has raised alarms about the risks of encounters arranged through dating apps, where initial trust can quickly turn into scenarios of violence, El Heraldo de México pointed out.
