The United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has issued a mass recall of cucumbers.

These cucumbers were linked to a salmonella outbreak.

The outbreak has already affected 68 people across 19 states, resulting in the hospitalization of 18 patients.

This situation has prompted swift action from supermarkets such as Walmart, Costco, Kroger, and Albertsons to remove contaminated products from their shelves.

The affected cucumbers were distributed between October 12 and November 26 and were sold in 26 U.S. states and parts of Canada.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), along with the FDA, launched investigations.

They indicated that the contaminated cucumbers were grown by Agrotato, SA de CV, based in Sonora, Mexico.

SunFed Produce, headquartered in Arizona, distributed these cucumbers to various supermarket chains.

According to Craig Slate, president of SunFed, the company is cooperating closely with authorities to determine the exact cause of the outbreak.

The FDA has confirmed that these cucumbers are linked to salmonella infections, which can cause severe symptoms such as fever, diarrhea, vomiting, and abdominal pain.

Walmart announced the recall of Marketside cucumber slices in 34 Texas stores. These products were sold between October 12 and November 26.

Costco issued a notice on its website urging consumers to check their inventories and quarantine any affected cucumbers.

The recalled item is product number 171067, sold in six-unit packages.

Kroger pulled products containing contaminated cucumbers from several stores in states such as Arizona, Colorado, Louisiana, Texas, and Wyoming.

Wegmans warned customers about possible contamination in seed cucumbers sold until November 27, confirming that all affected products were removed from shelves.

Albertsons took similar measures, recalling vegetable trays, salads, and mixes containing cucumbers from its stores in Arkansas, Louisiana, and Texas.

Consumers who recently purchased cucumbers from the mentioned chains are advised to discard them immediately or return them to the point of purchase.

The FDA urges customers to check purchase dates and product codes to identify potential risks.

Anyone experiencing symptoms of salmonellosis after consuming cucumbers should seek medical attention immediately.

The recall extends beyond retail supermarkets, affecting food service providers that may have distributed these products to other states.

Companies like JFE Franchising, Supreme Produce, and Yummi Sushi have also recalled products containing the contaminated cucumbers.

These items were sold under brands such as Snowfox, Snowfruit, and Supreme Produce in supermarkets across several states.

Costco and other chains have strengthened their customer communication systems to ensure effective product removal.

Authorities remind consumers of the importance of properly washing fruits and vegetables before consumption to reduce contamination risks.

They also advise against consuming suspicious products and encourage staying informed through official updates.

The salmonella outbreak linked to cucumbers has raised alarms among supermarkets and consumers nationwide, according to USA Today.

With swift recall measures and collaboration between retailers and authorities, efforts are underway to contain the outbreak and prevent further illnesses.

Meanwhile, FDA investigations continue to identify all sources of contamination and ensure the safety of fresh produce.
