The man who was shot and killed by federal immigration agents this Saturday in Minneapolis has been identified as Alex Jeffrey Pretti, a 37-year-old white male and city resident.

According to Minneapolis Police Chief Brian O’Hara, Pretti had no significant prior history with law enforcement beyond traffic citations.

O’Hara explained that, based on available information, Alex Jeffrey Pretti was a lawful gun owner and had a valid permit to carry firearms.

Identity and Background of the Minneapolis Federal Shooting Victim

The statement was made after the Department of Homeland Security claimed that the victim was armed during the incident.

This marks the second fatal case linked to immigration raids in Minneapolis in less than three weeks, according to the outlet Bring Me The News.

The police chief held a press conference to explain what is known so far about the Minneapolis federal shooting.

What the Shooting Video Shows

Alex Jeffrey Pretti’s death was captured on video shared on Facebook, which has circulated widely on social media.

The footage shows half a dozen or more masked agents surrounding a man lying on the ground.

The individual struggles with the agents and appears to resist while being restrained.

At one point in the video, one of the officers appears to strike him with the butt of a handgun.

Moments later, another agent opens fire on the man.

After the shots, the individual lies completely motionless on the ground.

At that point, immigration personnel step away from the body.

O’Hara emphasized that it is unknown what occurred before the recording began.

“We do not know what happened before the recording that is available online,” the police chief stated.

Given the seriousness of the case, police requested the immediate involvement of the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension.

O’Hara said investigators were already at the scene of the Minneapolis federal shooting.

He also noted that he believes FBI agents responded as well.

Context, Raids, and the Federal Version

“I think the video speaks for itself,” O’Hara said during his public briefing.

The police chief urged the public to leave the area where the shooting occurred.

The city declared a ban on public assembly in the vicinity.

Authorities also called for avoiding acts of violence or unrest in Minneapolis.

Meanwhile, the Department of Homeland Security issued a statement regarding the incident.

The statement claimed Alex Jeffrey Pretti was carrying a handgun and multiple magazines.

According to the federal account, agents were conducting an operation targeting an undocumented immigrant wanted for assault.

During that operation, Alex Jeffrey Pretti allegedly approached the federal agents.

The statement maintains that he was carrying a 9mm semi-automatic firearm.

The Department of Homeland Security released a photograph of the weapon referenced.

The case comes just over two weeks after another fatal shooting in the city.

In that incident, ICE agents shot and killed a 37-year-old woman, Renee Good.

She was fatally shot inside her vehicle during immigration raids.

Both operations have sparked large-scale protests among Minneapolis residents.

The large-scale raids began in early January.

They were ordered by the administration of President Donald Trump.

The city has received a number of federal agents five times greater than its local police force.

Immigration raids in Minneapolis intensified following a documentary released by a conservative YouTuber.

That content brought renewed attention to alleged misuse of federal funds.

The reported irregularities are said to be linked to daycare centers operated by members of the Somali community.
