During the same press conference, Minnesota National Guard Major General Shawn Manke explained that the troops had been preparing for more than a week.

Law enforcement agencies in Hennepin County requested support due to rising tensions.
The National Guard’s first action will be to secure the Whipple Building.

The deceased man was a 37-year-old white male.
According to available information, he had a legal permit to carry firearms.
Authorities indicated that he had no notable prior incidents with law enforcement.
Images circulated online show more than half a dozen immigration agents struggling with the man.
The agents later shot him at close range during the operation.
The Department of Homeland Security stated that the man was carrying a semi-automatic firearm.
It also reported that he had two fully loaded magazines.
The exact circumstances surrounding the use of force remain under intense public scrutiny.
The incident has sparked a strong reaction from state and local authorities.
Raid Context and Growing Tensions in Minneapolis

Walz and other local officials called on the Trump administration to halt immigration operations in the city.
The appeal comes after this marked the second deadly incident in just over two weeks.
On January 7, agents from Immigration and Customs Enforcement shot and killed a 37-year-old woman.
The victim was identified as Renee Good.
She died inside her vehicle during an immigration operation.
Large-scale raids in Minneapolis began in early January.
The city has seen the arrival of a number of federal agents five times greater than its entire local police force.
These operations were ordered by the federal government following the release of a documentary by a conservative YouTuber.
That material renewed attention on alleged cases of misused federal funds.
The allegations are linked to daycare centers operated by members of the Somali community.
Since then, Minneapolis has experienced protests, intensified operations, and a growing federal presence.
The mobilization of the National Guard marks a new phase in the state’s response to the crisis.
