According to El Universal, the investigation into the kidnapping of Nancy Guthrie took a turn Tuesday with the detention of a person of interest in Arizona.
The Pima County Sheriff’s Department, with support from the FBI, detained an individual for questioning in connection with the case, media outlets including ABC News, CNN, and TMZ reported, citing a law enforcement official.
The person was detained at a location south of Tucson.
Authorities said they were preparing to execute a search warrant at a site associated with the individual.
The law enforcement source emphasized that the detained person has not been charged.
TMZ added that the individual is not a member of the Guthrie family.
Nancy Guthrie, mother of NBC News journalist Savannah Guthrie, disappeared ten days ago.
She is believed to have been abducted from her Arizona home on the night of January 31 or in the early hours of February 1.
The case has generated widespread media coverage and remains under active federal investigation.
Questioning and Multiple Persons of Interest in Nancy Guthrie’s Case
TMZ reported that, according to its sources, the alleged kidnapper is from the Tucson area.
The outlet also indicated that the individual may have written the ransom note sent to a pair of Tucson television stations and to TMZ.
In an interview with Fox News, FBI Director Kash Patel confirmed that the investigation is not limited to a single person.

“We are investigating individuals who, as we say, are persons of interest,” Patel stated.
He did not provide further details regarding the number of individuals under investigation or potential developments.
Authorities continue gathering evidence and analyzing information related to the communications received.
Bitcoin Account Activity Linked to Ransom

TMZ founder Harvey Levin revealed that a Bitcoin account linked to the alleged ransom letters has shown activity.
“I can only tell you that we have seen activity in the account,” Levin said in an interview with CNN’s Erin Burnett.
No additional details were provided regarding the amount, timing, or origin of the activity.
The FBI previously indicated that Nancy Guthrie’s family received a ransom letter demanding a sum of money.
Authorities have not publicly confirmed whether any payment has been made or whether the detected activity is directly related to the case.
Armed Suspect Images Released and Nationwide Appeal
The FBI released six photographs and three black-and-white videos showing a masked individual on the porch of the 84-year-old woman’s home.
The images were published by Kash Patel on his X account.
“As of this morning, law enforcement has uncovered these new images, previously inaccessible, showing an armed individual who appears to have tampered with Nancy Guthrie’s front door camera in the early morning hours of her disappearance,” Patel said.
The individual is described as armed and appears to be manipulating the front door camera.
White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt stated that President Donald Trump reviewed the images.
“The president encourages any American with even the slightest information about the suspect, anywhere in the country, to contact the FBI,” she said.
Authorities reiterated their call for the public to provide any information that may help identify the individual captured on camera.
The investigation remains ongoing as questioning continues and search warrants are prepared in connection with the case.
