According to preliminary reports from the Traffic Accident Investigation Section (SIAT) of Carabineros, the vehicle driven by Karen Soto allegedly veered into the opposite lane, colliding head-on with another car.
The accident occurred around 10:30 in the morning.
Her younger child was transported by helicopter, while the older one was taken by ambulance to the same hospital.
Both died hours later due to the severity of their injuries. The occupants of the other vehicle, two adult men, suffered multiple traumas and remain under medical observation.
The Public Prosecutor’s Office ordered expert reports to determine the exact causes of the crash and confirm whether factors such as speeding or distractions at the wheel were involved.

Karen Soto came to public attention in 2023, when she was arrested along with her partner, Héctor Mancilla, as part of a drug trafficking investigation.
According to authorities, she was part of a network that distributed cocaine hydrochloride from southern Chile to the Metropolitan Region.
On social media, she cultivated a flashy image: designer clothes, travel, luxury cars, and a pink vehicle that became her personal trademark.
This car was seized by Carabineros during the investigation that led to her conviction for small-scale drug trafficking, which she was serving on probation at the time of her death.
Funeral under strict security measures
Following Karen Soto’s death, the Presidential Delegation of the Los Lagos Region classified her funeral as a “high-risk” event due to her background and connection with a dismantled criminal organization.
The decision was based on Law No. 21.717, in effect since May 2025, which regulates funerals with the potential to affect public order.
The law required the entire funeral process to be carried out within a maximum of 24 hours, with direct transfer to the cemetery and without extended wakes.
Authorities justified the measure as a way to prevent incidents and ensure community safety.
