A decade marked by health struggles

In March 2015, Raúl Benoit suffered a stroke in Florida that left him in an induced coma while doctors worked to stabilize his condition.

It was a turning point that, by his own account, radically transformed how he lived and worked.

“One day my life changed forever. My body gave me a warning,” he wrote while recalling that episode.

“I couldn’t speak. I didn’t understand anything. I looked like a vegetable,” he confessed in a post where he also noted: “Doctors said I wouldn’t survive… and I proved them wrong.”

Parkinson’s disease and Raúl Benoit’s final message

Over time, Benoit faced additional complications, including psoriasis, COVID-19, and ultimately a diagnosis of Parkinson’s disease.

The journalist explained that the condition “causes movement, mental, and sleep disorders,” profoundly affecting his daily life.

He acknowledged that these conditions pulled him away from journalism—though never from reflection on life and well-being.

“Please, take your lives calmly… and we can live healthily and happily,” he advised in one of his final public messages.

His words, like his work, continue to resonate—cementing the impact of the death of Raúl Benoit on colleagues, audiences, and the broader journalistic community.
