A teacher died Monday in a car crash that occurred during a pursuit related to an operation by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).
The Chatham County Police Department (CCPD), where Savannah, Georgia is located, reported that the incident happened shortly before 8:00 a.m.
The victim was identified as Linda Davis, a teacher at Hesse K-8 School.
She was transported to a hospital, where she was later pronounced dead, according to Telemundo.

According to preliminary information, the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) was conducting an immigration enforcement operation in the area.
During the operation, authorities attempted to stop a man identified as Óscar Vásquez López.
According to the report, López did not comply when agents attempted to detain him.
ICE then initiated a pursuit. During the attempt to flee, the suspect crashed into the vehicle driven by Davis.

The CCPD indicated that the operation was carried out by federal authorities.
Local police stated they had no prior knowledge of the DHS or ICE operation in the area.
They also confirmed that no CCPD officers participated in the pursuit.

Following the crash, López was treated for injuries that were not life-threatening.
He was later arrested by CCPD officers.
Authorities reported that he faces multiple charges, including:
- First-degree vehicular homicide
- Reckless driving
- Driving without a valid license
- Failure to obey a traffic control device
The investigation remains ongoing.

Savannah-Chatham County Public Schools confirmed that a member of their staff died in the crash.
The district announced that counselors would be available throughout the week.
The goal is to support students and staff affected by the loss.
In a statement, Hesse K-8 School said: “Linda Davis was a beloved member of our school family, and her loss has deeply affected us.”
School principal Alonna McMullen also addressed the community on social media.
She stated that the school activated its crisis response plan.
The purpose is to provide emotional support to the school community.
“Our teachers and counselors have been briefed on our plans and given guidelines for talking about death and grief reactions,” McMullen wrote.
“There will be district counseling staff available for students and staff who need special attention and support.”
