The mistake that cost Sammie Barbosa his life in San Antonio

It was in the early days of June 2021 when the San Antonio Police Department in Texas, USA, released a revealing video.

In this footage, we witness the beginning of a shootout that resulted in two suspects dead and one officer wounded.

Among the victims is Sammie Barbosa, who made a costly mistake that would ultimately cost him his life.

This unfortunate incident occurred two months before the video was released, in April 2021. In addition to Sammie Barbosa, Alex García also died.

According to a report by the Prensa Libre portal, the officer involved in this shootout was Tyler Sauvage, who instructed the suspects to stop.

Approaching their truck, he indicated they should allow him to check their pockets and instructed the driver to turn off the car.

He also instructed them to place the keys in a visible location. Accompanying the two men was a woman who ‘only’ suffered injuries.

Sammie Barbosa admitted that he had smoked marijuana

Subsequently, the police officer requested Sammie Barbosa’s identification and then asked him to exit his truck. He mentioned detecting a smell of marijuana.

Sammie admitted to having smoked, but only minutes before, and the officer was likely smelling the lingering odor.

In the footage, an officer revealed that the front-seat passenger can be heard instructing the rear passenger to pass him a firearm.

It was at that moment, after opening the driver’s door, that one of the suspects began firing.

Shooting in San Antonio

Unfortunately, Tyler Sauvage suffered a gunshot wound to his hand, but he managed to take cover inside his vehicle.

After dropping his firearm, the police officer was able to retrieve it and sought cover behind the patrol car.

Despite both Sammie Barbosa and Alex García ceasing fire, Sauvage continued to shoot. He feared they might resume shooting at him.

The woman, whose identity was not disclosed, sustained a gunshot wound to the torso and was transported to the hospital, along with the officer.

While a woman managed to record the arrival of more police officers, a man commented that he witnessed the events.

It didn’t take long for social media users to react to this video.

It could be argued that the mistake that ultimately cost Sammie Barbosa his life was not cooperating with the police officer’s inspection.
