- State tax refund checks available in 2026
- Tax credits for low-income earners
- Programs benefit Latino families
The 2026 tax season is shaping up to be one of the most favorable for millions of families across the United States, especially low- and moderate-income households seeking relief amid the high cost of living.
States and the federal government have confirmed expanded state tax refund checks 2026 and higher tax credits, potentially translating into thousands of additional dollars for those who qualify.
Latino communities are among the most benefited, partly because many of these programs allow applications using a valid Social Security number or ITIN.
For many families, these refunds are not just an extra boost — they are essential support to pay rent, cover debts, or manage basic expenses such as groceries and transportation.
State Tax Refund Checks 2026 You Can Claim
California continues to offer one of the nation’s most comprehensive programs through the California Earned Income Tax Credit (CalEITC).
This benefit can provide up to $3,756 for low-income workers who meet state eligibility requirements.
Additional support may include the Young Child Tax Credit, which offers up to $1,189, and the Foster Youth Tax Credit, with a similar amount available.
To qualify, applicants must have a valid Social Security number or ITIN, reside in California for more than half of the tax year, and not be claimed as a dependent by another taxpayer.

Pennsylvania Property and Rent Rebates
In Pennsylvania, the Property Tax/Rent Rebate Program supports eligible homeowners and renters.
Standard rebates range from $380 to $1,000 for older adults and individuals with disabilities over age 18.
The final amount depends on income level, and in some cases, supplemental rebates between $190 and $500 are automatically granted.
These additional payments apply to homeowners earning $32,070 or less whose property taxes exceed 15% of total income, as well as to residents of Philadelphia, Scranton, or Pittsburgh.
Key Dates and How to Apply
Applications for fiscal year 2025 rebates are already being accepted.
The deadline to submit applications is June 30, 2026, and mailed forms postmarked by that date will be honored.
Funds have been allocated to cover all eligible applicants.
Those with questions can contact the Department of Revenue at 1-888-222-9190 for direct guidance.

Other States Offering Support
Washington provides the Working Families Tax Credit, with refunds ranging from $335 to $1,330 depending on household income and size.
The maximum benefit applies to families with joint incomes under $68,675.
In Virginia, automatic rebates of $200 for individual filers and $400 for joint filers are already being distributed, provided that the state return was filed before November 3, 2026.
These initiatives aim to ease financial pressure in states with large Hispanic populations, where housing and food costs have risen sharply.

Monthly Assistance for Families With Children
Beyond state tax refund checks 2026, the Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) program continues to provide monthly support to households with children under 18.
In Texas, payments vary based on household size and range from $154 to $528 per month.
Unlike one-time checks, this program offers ongoing assistance to help cover essential needs such as food, transportation, and utilities.
The use of an ITIN has expanded access to these benefits, allowing more workers to qualify for support that was previously out of reach.
For many Latino families, these programs represent a real opportunity to strengthen financial stability and begin the year with economic support that can make a meaningful difference in their household budgets.
