Brazilian society remains in shock following the case of Thales Naves Alves Machado, a local official who killed his children and later took his own life.

The incident occurred in the municipality of Itumbiara, in the state of Goiás.

Thales Machado served as Government Secretary in Itumbiara.

He was the son-in-law of the city’s mayor, Dione Araujo. His wife is Sarah Araujo.

According to available information, the crime occurred on the night of Wednesday, February 11.

Preliminary investigations indicate he acted after discovering his wife’s alleged infidelity.

Who Was Thales Machado?

Machado stated in a public message that Sarah had been unfaithful after 15 years of marriage.

He also claimed she traveled to São Paulo to meet her alleged lover.

According to what he wrote, the meeting occurred on his 40th birthday.

In his message, he expressed that he was heartbroken and did not know how to handle the situation.

Authorities reported that Thales Machado used a firearm and shot his sons, ages 12 and 8.

The older child died immediately. The younger boy initially survived the gunshots.

He was found alive and transported to a hospital. However, according to official reports, he later succumbed to his injuries.

Preliminary investigations indicate that Machado believed both children were dead before he fatally injured himself.

Brazilian police confirmed he acted alone. Nevertheless, investigative proceedings continue to clarify all aspects of Thales Machado’s tragedy.

Thales Machado’s Letter Shook Brazil

Before committing the crime, Thales Machado published a lengthy message on his Instagram profile.

In the text, he explained his feelings and addressed his wife directly.

“Sarah, unfortunately, this was not what I wanted. I only wanted the truth and the respect that, sadly, you did not give me, and you left with the most unqualified and deceitful person in our city,” he wrote.

He also asked for forgiveness from his family and from God.

“I ask forgiveness from God, from Jesus Christ, from Our Lady of Aparecida and Saint Rita of Cascia, pray for us. If there is even a little compassion, please forgive me. I did this with a broken heart; I did not know what else to do,” he expressed.

The message was posted shortly before the events.

The letter became one of the most disturbing elements of Thales Machado’s case. So far, Sarah Araujo has not issued any public statements.

The municipal government of Itumbiara declared three days of official mourning. The measure was taken following the deaths of the official and the mayor’s grandson.

The investigation remains ongoing as authorities work to clarify every detail of the case.

The tragedy has left the local community deeply affected and continues to generate reactions throughout Brazil.
