Former US President Barack Obama on Monday outlined a possible victory for Democratic candidate Kamala Harris in the November elections.
This was during his speech on the second day of the Democratic National Convention in Chicago, where he said that the country is ready «for a new chapter.»
«We don’t need four more years of bluster and chaos. We’ve seen that movie before and we know the aftermath is usually worse,» Obama said.
«America is ready for a new chapter. America is ready for a better story. We are ready for a President Kamala Harris,» the former president said to cheers.
Michelle Obama electrifies with her speech at the Democratic National Convention

Former First Lady Michelle Obama electrified the stadium hosting the Democratic National Convention on Tuesday.
This included attacks on former president and Republican candidate Donald Trump, and a shout-out to Kamala Harris, whom he described as the heir of «hope.»
The former first lady, a daughter of this city, was greeted with thunderous applause and shouts of joy from the thousands of people at the United Center stadium in Chicago.
The national convention is being held there, where Harris will give a speech on Thursday to accept the Democratic nomination.
Michelle thanked the applause and said there was something “wonderfully magical in the air” not just in the stadium but across the country, a “family feeling that had been buried for too long.”
«You know what I’m talking about, right? It’s the anticipation, the energy, the excitement of being back on the brink of a brighter day,» Michelle said.

She immediately exclaimed, arousing applause from the audience: «America, hope is making a comeback!»
In this way, the former first lady alluded to the motto of «hope» that led her husband, Barack Obama, to the White House in 2008 and drew a parallel with Harris’s personal story.
Harris, like Michelle Obama herself, idolized her mother and had to mourn her death.
Michelle Obama’s forceful speech against Trump, whom she did not name, moved the thousands of attendees even more than the speech given by US President Joe Biden on the first day of the convention on Monday.
The charismatic former first lady lashed out at Trump’s «limited and narrow» worldview.
She said he felt threatened by the presence of an African-American family in the White House and considered that in this campaign he has returned to the same «ugly, misogynistic and racist lies.»
She called on voters to flock to the polls in November to elect the woman who could become the first African-American woman and the first person of Indian origin to serve in the White House.
Doug Emhoff, the husband of Democratic candidate Kamala Harris, introduced her during prime time at the Democratic National Convention.
And she did so as a «happy warrior» and a «tough» woman prepared to occupy the presidency for the first time in the country’s history.
«Kamala is a joyful warrior. She is doing for her country what she has always done for the people she loves. Her passion will benefit us all when she is our president,» Emhoff said.
Emhoff is a highly successful lawyer in the Hollywood entertainment industry who has admitted to dividing his time as «second gentleman» between Los Angeles and Washington.
«The thing about happy warriors is that they’re still warriors. And Kamala is as tough as you can get,» Emhoff said.
Emhoff married Harris for the second time in 2014 and could become the first «first gentleman» in US history.
He has participated and supported his wife during her nearly four years as vice president and in campaign activities since 2020.
Emhoff spoke of his “blended family” of a divorced father of two, who married a childless attorney general who took them in as her own and who has connected with his Jewish faith.
Emhoff’s two children, Ella and Cole, call their stepmother «Mamala,» something the husband of the now Democratic presidential candidate recalled in his speech.
«Anyone with blended families knows it’s hard at first, but once they started calling her Mamala, I knew everything was going to be okay,» Emhoff said.
He said, “Kamala has always been there for my children and will do the same for yours.”
Emhoff jokingly recalled that Harris still plays him a voicemail he left her when he was wooing her («Hi, it’s Doug…again») and that he fell in love with her «very quickly.»
Progressive Senator Bernie Sanders on Tuesday called for an end to interference by big donors in American politics.
This was during his speech at the Democratic National Convention, which kicked off the most expensive campaign in US history.
The politician identifies as an independent and dared to try to take the leadership of the Democratic Party in 2016 and 2020 and confront the party’s apparatus.
Sanders tonight once again presented ideas that were unthinkable in this group a few years ago and which today received several applause, such as public health care or public financing of campaigns.
He was also one of the speakers who most clearly called for a ceasefire in Gaza on the second day of the convention.
Something that was received with applause by a large part of the more than 4,500 party delegates gathered at the United Center in Chicago.
«Big donors should not be able to buy elections, including primaries,» Sanders said.
Sanders recently said that in 2020, after winning the first three Democratic primaries, the Democratic Party establishment moved to ensure that the process favored Biden.
Delegates from all 50 U.S. states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico and the territories verbally endorsed Kamala Harris’ presidential candidacy on Tuesday.
This is during the Democratic convention being held this week in Chicago.
In a vote accompanied by music and a light show, representatives from each state symbolically sealed Harris’ candidacy.
The vice president had already taken over the post on August 7, following President Joe Biden’s historic withdrawal from the party’s nomination.
Harris becomes the first woman of African-American or Indian descent to receive the nomination of a US governing party, one of the oldest in the world.
This follows a turbulent process following President Joe Biden’s resignation from re-election a month ago, under pressure from the Democratic barons.
The state-by-state vote was conducted symbolically, as Harris declared herself the party’s nominee to face Republican Donald Trump on Aug. 7.
This came after a virtual vote by the nearly 4,500 party delegates, who overwhelmingly transferred their votes from Biden to Harris.
On Tuesday, this almost absolute unanimity was staged with a DJ and proclamations in defense of the rights of women, minorities and the LGBT community.
Some states have even enlisted celebrities to sing their praises, including director Spike Lee in New York and actor Wendell Pierce in Louisiana.
As is tradition, the state that gave her the final nomination was California, where Harris is from.
With this inauguration, she has reached a historic milestone to the detriment of Biden, who, after his poor performance in the presidential debate in June and doubts about his advanced age, 81 years old, abandoned his plans to govern for four more years.
