Carlos Manuel Sierra Sánchez, better known as Charlie Sierra, passed away this Wednesday at 67 years of age.

«Charlie Sierra, brother, companion, thank you for your friendship. Thank you for accompanying me for more than 25 years as the timbales player in my orchestra…,» expressed singer Andy Montañez on his social network X.

«Rest in peace,» he added.

Singer Bobby Cruz also posted on Facebook, stating that «one of the best has gone.»

Throughout his career, Charlie Sierra collaborated with artists such as Celia Cruz and Cheo Feliciano.

The Puerto Rican salsa timbales player also worked with Tito Valentín, Gilberto Santa Rosa, and Yayo El Indio.

The percussionist began making his mark in the salsa world in the early days with the Mulenze orchestra in 1970.

Later, the native of Vega Baja, in northern Puerto Rico, joined the band Raphy Leavitt & La Selecta.

In the 1980s, Charlie Sierra collaborated with other major artists.

Among them were the orchestra of trumpeter Mario Ortiz (1982-1984), Cano Estremera, and Tony Vega.

In 2009, Charlie Sierra created his own band called Paso Nivel.

With this musical group, he recorded the album Ganas de Bailar, composed of eleven tracks.

According to People en Español, the cause of Charlie Sierra’s death is currently unknown.

Michelle Sierra, daughter of the Puerto Rican salsa timbales player, revealed that she had a «broken heart.»

She also announced that those who wish to say their final goodbye can attend his wake this Sunday, October 27, at the Viner Funeral Home in Bayamón, from 1 to 7 p.m.

«Thank you to everyone who has reached out; it is appreciated,» she expressed.
