The administration of President Donald Trump will eliminate $600 million in funding allocated to public health programs in four Democratic-led states, according to information reported by the EFE news agency.
The measure will directly impact California, Colorado, Illinois, and Minnesota, affecting both state agencies and non-governmental organizations.
The cuts are part of a broader budget restructuring driven by the federal executive branch.
A list detailing the canceled funds was shared with relevant congressional committees earlier this week.

According to The New York Post, part of the funding will stop being distributed as early as this week.
The remainder of the funds will be canceled during the following week, accelerating the financial impact.

The reductions include grants to state and local health departments.
They also affect organizations that collaborate on prevention and community care programs—key components of the Trump $600 million health cuts.

Key Health Programs Under Threat
According to The New York Times, the measure affects initiatives related to staff hiring, system modernization, and epidemic management.
It also impacts health programs designed to protect disadvantaged communities.
A spokesperson for the Department of Health stated that “these grants are being canceled because they do not reflect the agency’s priorities.”
Approximately two dozen of the eliminated programs were focused on combating HIV and other sexually transmitted infections.
Grants Canceled to Children’s Hospitals
Among the eliminated funds are $7.2 million allocated to the American Medical Association in Illinois.
That money supported health programs related to gender transition care for minors.

Additionally, $5.2 million allocated to Lurie Children’s Hospital of Chicago was canceled.
The funding aimed to expand HIV prevention therapy among Black women.
More Cuts to Organizations and Universities
Other reductions include $876,000 for the Prevention Research Center at the University of California, San Francisco.
That program sought to reduce social isolation among older LGBTQ adults.
In Colorado, $371,000 was eliminated from an organization working with Latino and African American men.
Its focus was on communities of men who have sex with men.

A Broader Budget Adjustment by the Administration
The changes are part of a larger package of cuts announced by the Office of Management and Budget.
In addition to the health sector, another $943 million allocated to the Department of Transportation was canceled.
According to The New York Times, much of the eliminated funding consisted of large institutional grants.
The decision signals a shift in federal priorities and anticipates significant consequences for public health systems in the affected states, as the Trump $600 million health cuts take effect.
