  • Electronic Payments Starting in October
  • New USCIS Fees Announced

The U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) announced the implementation of new digital processes for managing the most requested immigration procedures.

This measure, effective October 2025, promises to transform how millions of people submit their applications.

According to the federal agency, essential forms such as the Application for Naturalization (N-400), Application to Replace Permanent Resident Card (I-90), Petition for Alien Relative (I-130), and Application for Employment Authorization (I-765) can now be completed and paid for entirely online.

This technological update aims to speed up processing times, reduce documentation errors, and eliminate the need for postal submissions — offering a more efficient experience for immigrants and permanent residents alike.

Users can now access the official USCIS portal to complete applications from any device with an internet connection — without intermediaries or physical paperwork — marking a major shift from the traditional system.

The USCIS stated that the new system also supports electronic payments via bank transfers or credit cards. The use of paper checks or money orders will be phased out by October 28, 2025, according to Infobae.

Among the main updates is the introduction of Form G-1650, which allows users to make payments directly from U.S. bank accounts, along with continued use of Form G-1450, designed for credit card payments.

The USCIS online immigration platform not only improves accessibility but also enhances the security of the process. The online system enables more transparent tracking of each application’s status while reducing the risk of loss or fraud.

The agency clarified that those who started physical processes before the implementation date will not need to repeat them, though it recommends switching to the new system for future applications.

Alongside digitalization, USCIS announced adjustments to various immigration fees — a change authorized under the Reconciliation Act H.R.1, officially announced on July 18, 2025.

One of the most significant increases affects Form I-589, used for asylum applications, which now costs $100, with an annual charge applied to pending cases.

Additionally, fees for Form I-765, the work permit application, have been restructured by eligibility category, meaning the cost will vary depending on the applicant’s type.

These new fees took effect on July 22, 2025, and apply to all procedures submitted after that date, according to the official USCIS website.

The agency explained that the fee update aims to ensure USCIS’s financial sustainability and guarantee that public service operating costs are covered by fair application fees rather than external funding.

According to a Reuters report, both the digitalization and fee restructuring are part of a broader modernization strategy to improve U.S. immigration services and respond to the growing volume of applications.

With this modernization, USCIS aims to build a faster, more accessible, and transparent system — one that meets the evolving needs of a continually expanding immigrant population.
