Amid the climate of uncertainty generated by the recent mass deportation policies implemented by Trump, migrants face a complicated scenario.
The possibility of being detained by the Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) has caused concern in the Hispanic community.
Given this situation, legal experts have highlighted the importance of carrying certain essential documents that could make a difference in the event of an immigration intervention.
A lawyer, interviewed by Telemundo’s «Hoy Día» program, shared recommendations aimed at the migrant community.

These measures not only seek to protect individuals’ rights but also to reduce the likelihood of unjustified detentions.
«It feels like we can no longer go to a supermarket, go to a shopping center, go to a concert,» began Carlos Calderón.

He then asked the lawyer, «How can we protect ourselves? I think people are wondering what I need to bring in my bag in case of a raid.»
Faced with the fear and doubts presented on the ‘Hoy Día’ program, the lawyer did not hesitate to respond.
«I would suggest that at the very least they carry the card given when you apply for a passport, not just the license, if possible carry it,» mentioned the expert.
«For those who are permanent residents, you are obligated to carry the original permanent resident card,» he added.
«A photo, a paper, no, it must be the original card,» the lawyer emphasized on ‘Hoy Día’.
«And all those who are in the process of immigration procedures should undoubtedly carry receipts, the work permit,» he mentioned.
«The work permit is a document that immediately demonstrates that you have a validity or legality in the country,» he affirmed.
«For people who do not have documentation, the immediate invitation is to retain a lawyer,» he concluded.
The lawyer’s statements provoked endless reactions on social media, where users criticized the expert’s stance on the immigration raids.
«With my license, it’s more than enough! This seems like intimidation more than anything else!», «The driving license shows the immigration status,» they said.

Others pointed out that it seems like they want to instill more fear in immigrants rather than help with information.
«I’d say they want to cause more fear,» «What madness is yours,» «Selling fear,» «You don’t help at all, you just scare people,» it reads.
Finally, there were those who expressed that it is unnecessary to carry official documents in these times of raids.
«It’s wrong to have to walk around with the residency on you,» «They should better check all those who have a criminal record,» they shared.
