The White House sharply criticized Amazon on Tuesday for passing the cost of Donald Trump’s tariffs onto consumers.

“This is a hostile and political act by Amazon,” stated spokesperson Karoline Leavitt during a press briefing.

Leavitt appeared alongside Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, who also supported the administration’s stance.

The spokesperson questioned why Amazon did not take similar actions during Joe Biden’s presidency, when inflation reached historic levels.

She accused Jeff Bezos of having business ties to the Chinese government, which, according to her, would explain the company’s position.

“This is yet another reason why Americans should buy American-made products,” Leavitt added.

She noted that the administration continues to promote the reshoring of supply chains within the United States.

The conflict between Trump and Bezos is once again escalating, despite recent signs of reconciliation.

During the election campaign, Bezos reportedly ensured that The Washington Post did not publicly endorse Kamala Harris—an unusual move for the publication.

In addition, the Amazon founder held a prominent seat at Trump’s inauguration ceremony in January.
