Statements by Democratic Congresswoman Yassamin Ansari opened a new political front against President Donald Trump after she directly questioned his mental stability and called for his immediate removal from office through the 25th Amendment of the U.S. Constitution.

The accusation emerged after the disclosure of a private message allegedly sent by Trump to Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre, in which the president expressed frustration over not receiving the Nobel Peace Prize and raised the possibility of taking full control of Greenland.

The Context

The controversy erupted after details of a message attributed to President Donald Trump and sent to the Norwegian head of government became public.

In that text, Trump reportedly stated that because he was denied the Nobel Peace Prize, he no longer feels obligated to prioritize world peace as the central pillar of his foreign policy.

The message also included assertions about Denmark’s inability to protect Greenland and Trump’s view that the United States should exercise complete control over the territory.

In the text addressed to Jonas Gahr Støre, the president wrote:

“Dear Jonas: Considering that your country decided not to give me the Nobel Peace Prize for stopping eight MORE wars, I no longer feel obligated to think purely about Peace—although it will always remain predominant—but can now think about what is good and appropriate for the United States.”

Trump continued with a direct statement regarding Greenland:

“Denmark cannot protect that territory from Russia or China, and why do they even have a ‘right of ownership’ anyway? There are no written documents—just that a ship landed there hundreds of years ago, but other ships landed there too. I have done more for NATO than anyone since its founding, and now NATO should do something for the United States. The world will not be safe unless we have total and complete control of Greenland.”

The Democratic Reaction

After the contents of the message became known, Representative Yassamin Ansari, a Democrat from Arizona, published a forceful statement on X directly questioning the president’s mental fitness to remain in office.

“The president of the United States suffers from a serious mental illness and is putting our lives at risk. The 25th Amendment exists for a reason: we must invoke it immediately,” Ansari wrote.

The congresswoman argued that the message sent to the Norwegian prime minister demonstrates, in her view, that Trump poses not only a political risk but also a threat to global security by tying his commitment to international peace to personal recognition.

More Voices Join Yassamin Ansari

Yassamin Ansari’s position was echoed by other Democratic lawmakers.

Representative Sydney Kamlager-Dove also called for the application of the 25th Amendment to remove Trump from office.

“Donald Trump is unfit to lead and is clearly out of control. Invoke the 25th Amendment,” she wrote in a post on X.

Senator Ed Markey likewise joined the criticism, agreeing that the message’s content and tone warrant a serious discussion about Trump’s ability to continue in office.

What Comes Next

The 25th Amendment of the U.S. Constitution allows for the removal of a president if it is determined that they are unable to fulfill the duties of the office.
