On Monday, August 8, 2022, 19-year-old Emily MacDonald and 22-year-old Kory Ernster were swimming at South Beach in South Haven, Michigan.
Tragically, the couple drowned in Lake Michigan. They had been together for five years.
Almost two years after this tragedy, the parents of the young couple has found a surprising way to honor their memory.

Emily MacDonald and Kory Ernster’s parents say it has been difficult

Emily’s mother, Lisa MacDonald, has found a way to move forward after the tragedy.
«It’s been really hard. To have all that taken away without any warning, it absolutely crushed me,» she shared.
Together with Kory’s father, she decided to donate two lifesaving robots to communities along Lake Michigan.
These robots are named E.M.I.L.Y. (Emergency Integrated Lifesaving Lanyard).
Funding for the robots comes from Kory’s life insurance

Finally, the deaths of Emily MacDonald and Kory Ernster, serves a noble purpose.
According to M Live, the funding for the lifesaving robots came from Kory’s life insurance money.
These devices could help at a time when municipalities have reported challenges with staffing for lifeguard programs.
It could give people a better chance of survival when seconds and minutes can make a difference, stated Ernster.
