In the early hours of Tuesday morning, a violent operation carried out by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents shocked a Mexican family living in Portland, Oregon, after officers broke down doors and pointed guns at the occupants of the home.
The event was recorded by Maricruz Magaña, a young mother who bravely filmed the moment.
The video, later broadcast by Noticias Telemundo, shows the intensity of the operation and the chaos it caused inside the home.
In the footage, agents can be heard shouting, “Police! Don’t move! Hands up!” followed by the terrified cries of the young woman, who was holding her baby while her brother, Napoleón Andrés Magaña, surrendered to the officers.
The agents broke down the bedroom door where Maricruz and her family were hiding, pointing long guns at them in an operation that, according to witnesses, did not have a judicial warrant.
ICE raid in Oregon leaves two detained
According to the report from Noticias Telemundo, ICE agents entered the residence searching for a man identified only as “Israel,” who they allegedly intended to detain for immigration-related reasons.
However, the young woman stated that no one by that name lived in the house, which caused confusion and fear among those inside.
In panic, Maricruz and her brother tried to take shelter in a room, but the agents forced their way in by breaking the door.
“I was terrified. The way they pointed their guns at us, I thought they were going to shoot,” the woman said, visibly shaken by what had happened.
Mexican family denounces abuse and excessive force

During the operation, Napoleón Magaña and his stepfather, Arturo García Cabrera, were arrested, while Maricruz was not detained because she was holding her baby.
The woman said that the officers broke doors, knocked over decorations, and caused property damage, in addition to violently subduing her brother — all without showing any arrest warrant.
“They haven’t done anything wrong here; they’ve always behaved well,” she said, explaining that her family came to the U.S. seeking a better life.
Her brother, she noted, has been in the process of applying for political asylum since 2023.
Her stepfather arrived in the country in 2022 and has a steady job in the Gresham, Oregon area, where the family had lived peacefully until this incident.
Local authorities question ICE raid in Oregon

Ricki Ruiz, the state representative for Gresham, spoke out against the operation and harshly criticized ICE, saying the video exposes a troubling pattern of abuse of authority during immigration raids.
“The man they were looking for, Israel, didn’t live there, but they still took two people, even without a warrant,” Ruiz denounced.
He added that federal authorities must review their protocols, as these actions spread fear among immigrant communities already living under pressure and discrimination.
“These operations only deepen mistrust in the system — especially for families who are legally seeking asylum,” he stated.
DHS remains silent on the Oregon case
So far, the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), which oversees ICE, has not issued an official statement regarding the operation or the arrests.
The Latino community in Portland has demanded an independent investigation and the immediate release of the detainees, arguing that the agents entered the home without a warrant or justified cause.
The case has reignited the debate over excessive force in immigration raids, particularly in areas where families with pending asylum cases reside.
Meanwhile, civil rights groups and immigrant advocates are organizing protests in front of the ICE office in Portland, calling for an end to arbitrary detentions and for federal operations to be reviewed and held accountable.
