Relations between Mexico and the United States have increasingly centered around security concerns.
Among the primary issues are narcotrafficking and fentanyl trafficking.
Migration and tariffs also remain major topics within the bilateral agenda.
In recent months, multiple U.S. officials have traveled to Mexico to discuss these matters.
Among them was Marco Rubio.
Kash Patel, head of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), also participated in discussions.

Within that context, Sheinbaum has repeatedly defended Mexico’s position regarding international cooperation.
The president has supported coordination and intelligence-sharing between both nations.
However, she rejected the possibility of direct foreign operations inside Mexican territory.
The debate intensified following controversy surrounding the alleged participation of U.S. agents in operations targeting drug laboratories in Chihuahua.
The issue sparked broader discussion about the limits of bilateral security cooperation.
USMCA talks and accusations in Sinaloa increase tensions
The dialogue between both governments also occurs during a politically sensitive moment.
The United States Department of Justice accused licensed Sinaloa governor Rubén Rocha Moya and other local officials of alleged links to the Sinaloa Cartel.
In response, the Mexican government demanded that U.S. authorities provide evidence supporting the accusations.
The controversy has added further pressure to the bilateral relationship.
At the same time, commercial discussions surrounding the USMCA continue.
Marcelo Ebrard and Jamieson Greer have discussed the negotiation process.
Both officials acknowledged that negotiations are expected to be lengthy.
They even indicated that talks could extend into 2027.
The Sheinbaum-Trump conversation took place amid this increasingly complex political environment.
Despite ongoing disagreements, both governments continue maintaining open channels of dialogue regarding security and trade matters.
