Myrka Dellanos has leveled sharp criticism at Univision and Telemundo, questioning editorial freedom within the largest Spanish-language television networks in the United States.
The journalist said it has become difficult to work at those media organizations if a broadcaster does not share certain political and ideological views.
Dellanos also linked her departure from television to her opinions, claiming that those who think differently can be pushed out of the networks.
Her remarks have sparked controversy because they include warnings about censorship, control of information, and what she believes are growing threats to press freedom.
Myrka Dellanos Says Journalism Has Changed at Major Networks
During a reflection on her years in Spanish-language television, Myrka Dellanos compared the newsroom environment from two decades ago with what she says exists today.
The television host said there was once greater editorial balance and that differences of opinion did not create the internal conflicts she believes now affect newsrooms.

“Twenty years ago—I was talking about this with one of my former Univision producers—20 or 25 years ago, we worked in a newsroom, but we didn’t have these kinds of internal fights within the networks.”
Dellanos argued that the environment has changed over time and claimed that certain political viewpoints now dominate those media outlets.
“Today, you can’t really practice journalism. That’s why you can’t work at these networks if you’re not left-wing, socialist, or radical. If you don’t hold that position, they won’t hire you.”

The former television host said she personally experienced the consequences of holding a different viewpoint from what she claims prevails within those media companies.
“Or they’ll push you out, like they did to me, because they don’t want to accept it. They don’t want to accept that the people—that you watching us here—can hear those truths.”
For Myrka Dellanos, the essence of journalism is presenting different perspectives so audiences can draw their own conclusions. “Traditional journalism is: I give you both sides of the story, I tell you what’s happening, and you make your own decisions.”
She added that information should not be presented with the intention of persuading the public to embrace a particular narrative. “I don’t give you something that’s already been chewed up—something I know is false—so that you’ll believe it and then I can control you.”
Myrka Dellanos Warns About Censorship and Communism
In her remarks, Dellanos went beyond criticizing television networks and connected the issue to what she described as a broader threat to freedom of expression.
“That is communism, and everyone should reject it if they want prosperity and the freedom that is innate to us as human beings.”
She also warned that, in her view, society could gradually lose its freedoms if people are not vigilant.
“It’s a plan, and people who are blind will fall into that plan. They’ve done it in other countries. We can’t be naïve enough to think it can’t happen here, because it’s already happening.”
The broadcaster insisted that communist governments seek to control the media first and argued that such a scenario represents a threat to democracy.

La periodista defiende la importancia de una prensa libre
Myrka Dellanos reiteró posteriormente su postura mediante una publicación compartida en su cuenta de Instagram, donde volvió a referirse a la censura.
“La prensa LIBRE es esencial en nuestra sociedad y hoy por hoy la censura es real”, escribió la presentadora en su muro.
“MUCHO CUIDADO porque cuando no te permiten escuchar la verdad se extermina la democracia y tu libertad como ser humano”, agregó.
Sus comentarios reabrieron el debate sobre la pluralidad de opiniones dentro de los medios hispanos y sobre los límites entre línea editorial, libertad periodística y responsabilidad informativa.
