MARIEL COLÓN BREAKS THE SILENCE IN AN INTERVIEW FOR MUNDONOW

After her unexpected leap from the courtroom to the musical stage, Mariel Colón, the attorney for Joaquín «El Chapo» Guzmán, is advancing in her music career.
In an exclusive announcement to MundoNow, she reveals plans to release an electronic album soon, featuring five tracks, one of which she wrote herself.
The 31-year-old Puerto Rican, who made her artistic debut in February 2023 with the music video for the single «La Abogada,» has high expectations.
She is optimistic about the outcome of this album, which she is crafting with a team of music industry professionals.
What is “The Lawyer” preparing?

«I’m working with my team to finish an electronic album with five tracks. There’s one specific track that will be like the main theme of the LP, and I think people are going to really like it,» says Colón.
At the same time, she avoids any questions that might reveal which artist will collaborate with her on the new production.
«I think that track is going to be a huge surprise,» comments the lawyer, who also legally represented Emma Coronel, Guzmán’s wife, at one point.
Regarding the music video for the promotional track, Colón says, «We’re going to have a guest appearance that will surprise people a lot.»
Who will be the surprise guest?

The composition is her own, in collaboration with a «quite media-savvy individual.»
Despite gaining worldwide fame and solidifying her legal career with her participation in the team that defended «El Chapo,» his wife, and financier Jeffrey Epstein, Colón felt the need to express something beyond her passion for the law.
«I always thought I wanted to study entertainment law, but things didn’t happen that way…»
Mariel’s deepest wish?

«In law school, I discovered a deep passion for criminal law, specifically the defense side…»
«God gave me the opportunity to fall into the case of the century, so to speak, but I always held onto the fact that my first passion was music,» recalls the lawyer.
Although her passion for music began in childhood, alongside her father, the singer of «Se te hizo tarde» confesses that it wasn’t until two years ago.
After bariatric surgery, she regained her self-confidence and decided to launch herself into the world of music
“I was more afraid of not having tried”

«It wasn’t a decision I made overnight,» Mariel insists, who felt she could lose the respect she had built with her work as a legal professional.
«What scared me more was not having tried and staying with the doubt of what could have happened.»
«I decided to go all in, I decided to release my first track, my first single,» recalls La Abogada, her stage name as known on digital platforms.
Despite being Puerto Rican, Mariel leaned towards the regional Mexican rhythm.
Why did you decide on the Mexican regional?

Months after her debut as an artist, she acknowledges that her work with Coronel and Guzmán had a significant influence on her musical inclination.
In addition to the influence exerted during her childhood by Juan Gabriel, Ana Gabriel, and Luis Miguel.
«When I started singing regional Mexican music, I discovered a way to connect with my client,» asserts the lawyer, who admits she had to learn some songs to perform for «El Chapo.»
«As I wanted to study the artists he liked, I started to like the regional one
The music doesn’t abandoned her!
Since then, Colón assures, when she enters a prison, she sings to her clients. In this way, she set aside her fears and has managed to make her clients proud when they see her on television or on stage.
In the legal field, the lawyer stands out for her seriousness and professionalism. However, through music, she has been able to connect with people in a different way. Even with those who doubted she had real musical talent.
Now her life unfolds in two completely different stages, but she fights and continues to dream of her growth in both music and law.
Amid her dreams, she is also contemplating the possibility of future performances to showcase her new music.
